Arguably the most anticipated match of the whole group stage at the 2022 World Cup comes with a major twist.
Germany’s loss to Japan in their opening game means Die Mannschaft come into a game against fellow European power and World Cup winner Spain desperately needing to bounce back. That might prove difficult after Spain announced its present in Qatar by thrashing Costa Rica, 7–0, in their group opener.
Costa Rica did Germany a bit of a solid by beating Japan earlier in the day, though, meaning a defeat to Spain won’t spell the end for Germany at the World Cup. Hansi Flick’s side surely wants more out of Sunday’s meeting than just a pardon, though, especially with Germany having entered the World Cup as one of the threats to challenge for the title.
