The former Chiefs backup quarterback spilled the beans in regard to the superstar’s odd habit.
Longtime Chiefs backup quarterback Chad Henne announced his retirement from the NFL following Kansas City’s Super Bowl LVII win. Just a couple of days after calling it a career, Henne made an interview appearance during which he let slip some rather interesting information about Patrick Mahomes‘s superstitions.
During an interview with ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Henne revealed one of the more peculiar aspects of the Chiefs star’s routine. The recently retired QB hilariously let slip that that Mahomes wears the same pair of red underwear for every game.
While crediting the Super Bowl MVP for his strict routine and commitment to his craft, Henne revealed that, for as long as he’d be in Kansas City, part of Mahomes’ superstitious routine included donning the same pair of red underwear every Sunday.
It’s certainly a bizarre habit for Mahomes to go through before every game, but why fix what isn’t broken? The Chiefs have reached the AFC championship game every single season since Mahomes became the starter. During that same span, the team has made three Super Bowl appearances, winning twice.
If the red underwear routine is an important part of Mahomes’s preparation for a game, then so be it. After all, he’s the one parading around Kansas City celebrating his second Super Bowl victory.
