Cooper Flagg, the nation’s top basketball prospect in the class of 2024, revealed his commitment to play for Duke on Monday in a SLAM magazine article. After the news broke of his intention to play for the Blue Devils instead of Connecticut, the response on social media was mixed.
Flagg cemented his blue-chip status in July at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam, averaging 25.4 points, 13.0 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game. But his decision to join the Blue Devils apparently isn’t popular outside of the Duke fan base, and that opinion was voiced loud and clear on social media.
It seems as though Flagg might be following in the footsteps of Christian Laettner, Shane Battier, J.J. Redick and Zion Williamson as the latest in a long line of supertalented Duke villains.
Here are some of the best reactions from social media:
Guess he didn’t wanna be a champ @jj_redick

Forgive me for violating a piety of “good fandom”, but, Do I wish Cooper Flagg the best? Not really, he’s going to Duke and I’ve never wished a single good thing for Duke players. I hope he gets straight As, a beautiful girlfriend, and shoots Zero percent from the field.
