Knicks center Mitchell Robinson has a special bond with his high school basketball coach William “Butch” Stockton.
Stockton told the story of how the unlikely duo became roommates this NBA season while attending Thursday night’s Knicks vs. Pistons game.
Stockton’s wife died in September. While she was sick in the hospital, Robinson visited every day he could, and the former coach and player became even closer than they already were.
After Stockton’s wife’s funeral, Robinson proposed the idea for Stockton to come live in New York with him while he grieved.
“He said ‘Coach, no reason to stay down here in Louisiana. Come to New York with me and enjoy yourself and get your mind back straight because you know how much you loved your wife,’” Stockton shared.
Wow.
Incredible story told by Mitchell Robsinon’s high school coach Butch Stockton.
