During the Detroit Lions‘ 24–23 NFC wild card win over the Los Angeles Rams Sunday evening, Lions fans booed everything in sight as their team ended a 32-year wait for a playoff victory.
However, that may have included targets other than the Rams themselves—Los Angeles quarterback Matthew Stafford’s children.
Kelly Stafford, Matthew’s wife, claimed on her Instagram story that the couple’s four daughters were booed by Detroit fans during the game.
“It’s sports,” Kelly wrote. “The city wants to win. Everything is fair game … except the fans who booed my children.”
Matthew spent the first 12 seasons of his career with the Lions; he is the franchise’s all-time leader in almost every major passing category. Detroit traded him to the Rams on March 18, 2021 and he won the Super Bowl in his first year with the team.
“Other than (the booing), I loved the atmosphere and the booing just gave my husband more fire,” Kelly continued. “The more you love, the more you hate. I consider it all love going both ways.”
She closed by urging the Lions to “bring home a Lombardi,” which the team has never done in its long history.
