The father of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes, Patrick Mahomes I, was arrested Saturday in Tyler, Texas, and charged with driving while intoxicated, according to Tyler Police Department jail records.
The 52-year-old remains in jail as of Sunday afternoon, per the Tyler Morning Telegraph. Bond was set at $10,000, according to Smith County, Texas, jail records. Mahomes previously served a 40-day sentence for driving while intoxicated in 2019, according to the Morning Telegraph.
Mahomes was an MLB pitcher for the Minnesota Twins, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs and Pittsburgh Pirates during an 11-year major league career. He concluded his MLB career with the Pirates in 2003.
His son, the two-time NFL MVP, is slated to play in his fourth Super Bowl on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers in Las Vegas. Kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. ET, and the television broadcast is on CBS.
